March 3, 2009 iNum adds presence, IM and Google Talk

As of today the iNum network supports presence and IM (instant messaging).

This means that, if the feature is supported by your iNum provider, you will be able to see whether an iNum is available or not, and you will be able to send messages to an iNum in addition to simply calling that number.

The first IM client to be fully tested for presence and IM is Google Talk. And this is how it works:

From Google Talk, add a contact in the format 883510012345678@inum.net (where 883510012345678 is the iNum you want to reach). You can then view the presence of this iNum, make free calls and send free messages to the iNum, if supported by your iNum provider.

Most of the iNum providers do not support that feature yet since it has just been released today, however they have now started to implement it. Please check with your provider to see whether the feature is already supported.

I tried to initiate GizmoINUM from googletalk. Although I can hear the ringing tone, I cannot answer because there is no pop-up appears. I can call from my mobile to PC(Gizmo) and showing that my mobile number is calling and there is a way to pick up. But from Googletalk to Gizmo by adding a contact of 88351007408xxxx@inum.net, I can only here the ringing and no way to pick it up…..At the site of the Gtalk saying that “call with 88351007408xxxx@inum.net not answered” and it starts to record voice mail…

    Hi

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
There was an interop issue specific to the Gizmo5 client.
    This has now been fixed.
    Thanks

This is just awesome. I use Google Talk exclusively and I can’t wait to see SIP integrating with Google Talk. I hope that one day, I will be able to make and receive INUM and SIP calls right through Google Talk. I tried making calls to Gizmo5’s INUM number and it did go through fine.

    Thanks INUM.

I added a Google Talk contact but it will not let me call it until the invitation is accepted by 8835…@inum.net.

It appears that email invites are automatically being generated by gmail and bouncing back.

You cannot call because 88351000XXXXXXX@inum.net has not yet accepted your invitation.
    Welcome to Google Talk!
88351000XXXXXXX has not yet responded to your invitation to Google Talk. You can close this window and use it after they respond.

Our presence server faced intermittent issues yesterday and sometimes did not properly process the new contact requests.
This has now been fixed. Could you therefore try to delete and re-add your contact from Google Talk and see if this works now ?

If you are still facing this issue please contact us through the contact form on http://www.inum.net/contact and we will investigate your particular case. We will need to know which particular iNum partner you use and check whether they properly support presence.

We will contact Liberailvoip and check whether they support presence. If not we will activate a workaround for them.

This worked for a while but now it does not work. Google Talk does not show presence and when a new inum is added, it wants confirmation.

Do you know if Google Talk is planning on mapping iNum DID’s to the Gtalk accounts? I’d love to be able to Call GTALK from my phone?

Yes indeed our Gtalk facing equipment had an instability last week but this has been solved since. We made some additional development to prevent this from happening again

    @Chris
That’s a good question and should be asked to Google Talk :)
(we cannot speak on their behalf)….
